We are extremely excited to announce the advancement of senior women's hockey to be included this year in a first-ever Hockey Tournament for 50+ year-olds (birth date by the end of 2011), along with the other sporting games being played, which is put on by the "Nova Scotia 55+ Games Society."
When: Thursday September 22, 2011 and Friday September 23.
With a banquet on Saturday September 24.
Where: Beautiful Annapolis Valley (Kentville and Berwick)
Two of our NSWHL - C League players, and local Shinny players: Debbie Macdonald Gray and Nancy (Mac) MacLean have advocated to the NS 55+ Games Society of advancing senior women's hockey (similar to men's oldtimers) to be included for the 2011 Games. In order to establish women's hockey inclusion, the NS 55+ Games Committee have graciously lowered the qualifying age to be 50+ with hopes of rounding up as many eligible hockey players as possible from all corners of our province, to play in this first-ever 50+ tournament as a demonstration sport. [Medals will be awarded!] The success of women's hockey going forward as an included sport of the NS 55+ Games will be determined by having a high number of women hockey players participating in this first-ever 50+ tournament. Participants register as an individual player, then the NS 55+ Games host committee will Draft up the Teams. Please spread this exciting news!
NOTE: on the Games web-site there is also a Women's Hockey Poster... please download and pin it up in arenas everywhere, and any other bulletin boards where permission is granted to do so. All skill levels from Beginners to Advanced are invited to play. For FUN and camaraderie, Register today!
