Nova Scotia Women’s Hockey League begins play at new BMO Centre

HALIFAX, NS – The Nova Scotia Women’s Hockey League is playing its first games at the new BMO Centre tonight.

“The opening of this new facility has allowed our league to grow by four new teams and increase our season from 18 games to 24 games,” said league president Christina Lamey.

“Prior to the opening of this facility we had no prime time ice access in HRM and we now have four new evening slots to work with,” continued Lamey. “It has made a tremendous difference in helping our league accommodate the growth of our sport.”

The Nova Scotia Women’s Hockey League began play in 1994 with seven teams and today has 19 teams over three divisions with almost 400 players and coaches. Players come from across HRM and surrounding areas including Windsor and Truro.

Lamey adds the league has greatly reduced its lengthy waiting list and is actually now seeking some beginner level goalies.

More information about joining the league can be found on the NSWHL's website at www.nswhl.ca
